How Does It Work?
1) The shockwave therapy creates an inflammatory response. The body responds by increasing metabolic activity around the pain site. This shockwave stimulates and accelerates the healing process.
2) The shock wave dissolves scar tissue and possibly calcifications as well.
3) Pain transmission is blocked
Extracorporeal radial shock wave therapy consists of a series of high-energy shocks to the affected area. The shock wave is a physical, not an electrical, “shock” wave.
How long does the treatment last: Between 1,000 and 3,000 shocks are managed per session, which lasts between 5 and 10 minutes. Our physical therapists administer your treatment based on best practices for individual conditions.
How many treatments will I need: Acute problems usually require three treatments at weekly intervals; For chronic diseases, 4 sessions are recommended. There is a small chance that ‘additional treatments are needed if your condition is very chronic.

Preparation
Extracorporeal radial shock wave therapy is a series of high-energy percussions on the affected area. The shock wave is a physical “shock” sound wave, not an electrical one. We offer three sessions of shockwave therapy one to two weeks apart. Each treatment lasts between five and ten minutes.
- You should be sure to wear good supportive shoes and continue to follow your doctor’s instructions.
- You should stop taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin 24 hours before your Shockwave Therapy treatment.
Risk Factors
Complications do not usually occur with shock wave therapy. Its a low risk, but not always successful.
It can lead to increased pain and tenderness, which usually improves with time.
Individuals with poor sensation (neuropathy) or hypersensitivity at the proposed treatment site should not undergo Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy is not allowed to pregnant women.
If you have received a steroid injection in the same area within the last three months
If you have an infection, wound or tissue problem at the proposed treatment area the shockwave therapy is not allowed.
If you have poor sensitivity (neuropathy) or hypersensitivity in the target area, the shockwave therapy is not allowed.
You must consult the doctor if you: have a pacemaker.
If you are taking a blood thinning (blood-thinning) medicine, you are taking an anti-inflammatory medicine.
After Care
You can go about your normal activities, but avoid painful physical exercise for two days (48hours) after treatment.
The shock wave triggers an inflammatory response, which is the body’s natural healing process. For this reason, do not use anti-inflammatories. Do not use ice. The pain should disappear within 24 hours.
Do not ice the treated area and do not take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ‘aspirin, ibuprofen, or diclofenac, as this will stop the inflammatory and healing processes initiated by the shock wave treatment.
You may experience immediate pain relief with treatment, but long-term effects are usually noticeable after three months. You will have a follow-up clinic appointment three months. after your treatment.
